[EVERY NEWS 12] NISSAN MARCH / MICRA

Hi, this is Hina. I's getting warmer here but it's still chilly at night. I sometimes drives in fog on my way to home.

Today's car is NISSAN MARCH. Very poplar car in Japan and in the world. This car has been known that it has many different body type. There are MARCH Bolero and MARCH Rumba as classical version, MARCH Cabriolet as a drop head coupe, Wagon type as MARCH Box. And this vehicle also is used for a motor sport.

CVT AND ELECTROMAGNETIC CLUTCH OF MARCH K11
MARCH K11 model (The 2nd generation) have an electromagnetic clutch. It is different with a torque converter type clutch of latest cars. There seem to be many report of the electromagnetic clutch trouble. 


The symptoms of this trouble is noise from the crutch. They said there is some possibility of relapsing even you replaced its CVT.


Some causes are conceivable, but one of this trouble is wearing down of a CVT brush. This part works to operate a electromagnetic clutch. A clutch slips and the vehicle can't move if the part is worn down.


On the other hand, in the case that has already occurred, engine oil leaked from a crank rear oil seal and come into a electromagnetic clutch. If you found heavy engine oil leaking, it is better to check its transmission and clutch carefully also.


POWER WINDOW
MARCH's power window glasses have plastic stoppers on the lower side of each glass to avoid glass fall down. If these stoppers are worn down and crack, they can't hold a glass and it will fall down. There are some possibility of wearing down of the part on all kinds of vehicles.


Unfortunately this plastic part is not provided separately as a brand new. So you may have to buy it as a glass assy if you want to replace it.

[EVERY NEWS 11] MAZDA DEMIO / MAZDA 2

Hi, everyone, this is Hina. It's completely spring season in Japan. Cherry blossoms are blooming one after another.

Today's EVERY NEWS is MAZDA car a long time after MPV. I have been seeing DEMIO on TV commercial many times these days because its new model debuted this month(April 2012).

POWER WINDOW TROUBLE
Sometimes I have heard the trouble of power window from 1st and 2nd generation DEMIO users (The newest model is 3rd generation now). Their condition is like the following.

Case 01 A power window can't be closed completely (A window glass moves down a little after it closed successfully).
Case 02 A window glass can up only 2~3 cm at once (It stops though you continue to push a power window switch).

DEMIO's power windows work with regulator motors with wires. Many vehicles have this types for regulator motors. But motors that have been used long time get weaker because of rust, wear,etc. Moreover, rubber gaskets on a lower of a window frame get stiffen. Then motor power yields to the friction of stiffed gaskets and a glass.

If its rubber gaskets get stiffed, window frames have strains, regulator motors may recognizes that something stuck between a window frame and a window glass. This is safety system. Not a fault of regulator motor.

SKYACTIVE ENGINE
This engine is the new engine manufactured by MAZDA. What is talked about is its compression ratio.

Compression ratio means the ratio of compressed volume of fuel-air-mixture in a cylinder.

The limitation of conventional gasoline engines' compression ratio is "12". If it over the limit, a knock would caused. But SKYACTIVE ENGINE broke the limit. It can up the compression ratio to "13~14" without a knock. "13" is said the ideal compression ratio for a gasoline engine. Then new DEMIO with SKYACTIVE's fuel expenses is 30km/1L.

The best fuel expenses car is still TOYOTA PRIUS(38km/1L), but SKYACTIVE is more simple construction and reasonable engine than PRIUS's TOYOTA Hybrid System.

Its power seems to be lower a little bit than old DEMIO's gasoline engine, but its fuel expenses is pretty great as a gasoline engine without electric motor.

SKYACTIVE should be worthy of note by all over the world.

[EVERY NEWS 10] TOYOTA PRIUS

Hi, this is Hina Very long time no see, isn't it? Today's topic is TOYOTA PRIUS, one of the best seller TOYOTA vehicles along with COROLLA, HIACE, etc. NHW20 and after models look 5 door-hatchback, but they are categorized in sedan on TOYOTA official website.

The First Production Model of Hybrid Car in the World
PRIUS is really famous as a hybrid car. This drive system is called "TOYOTA HYBRID SYSTEM (THS)".

This system uses an gasoline engine and a motor. So its engine stops when the motor is working. So Prius doesn't have a tachometer and a water temperature meter.

The fuel expenses of the first model is 28.0km/L. This number is overwhelmingly better than other gasoline petrol vehicles fuel expenses. The fuel expenses of newest Prius(DAA-ZVW30) is 38.0km/L. This is No.1 in the world.

Three Water Pumps
Prius NHW10~20 have 3 water pumps.

(1) a belt working type for cooling an engine
(2) an electric type for cooling an engine
(3) an electric type for cooling an inverter.

An electric water pump for cooling engine sends engine cooling water to a heater even when an engine stops. An inverter is a part that changes an 12V direct current from a car to an alternating current for HID lights, consumer electronics, etc.


Hybrid cars have accessories that gasoline cars don't have, so their mechanical constructions are complicated. It is better to check if all water pumps have no water leaking.


Lastly, this is one of  an engine trouble reports that I heard. an emergency signal on the Hybrid system turned on when the customer was driving a highway. Soon the car decelerated, and stopped completely. In this case, the problem was caused on a water pump. This part stopped during driving, and the engine overheated because of a shortage of cooling water. That shows how these parts are important.

[EVERY NEWS 09] HONDA FIT / JAZZ

Hi, there. It's still heavy snow & frozen days in Japan. The snow have lain thick about 20~60cm!! I'm waiting for spring coming soon...though off-road driving on the snow is very exciting.

Today's vehicle is one of best-seller compact cars in Japan, HONDA FIT. The name of JAZZ may be closer to people in Europe, Africa, South-East Asia, Middle East, Oceania. There are no days I don't see this vehicle at cities in Japan.

HOW TO DISTINGUISH THEIR MODELS
The name of GD series (GD1,GD2,GD3 and GD4) is written "Fit" with small letters. GE series are written "FIT" with big letters. And the logo mark of GD series are actually 2 types. 1300cc has a red point on "i" of "Fit"mark , 1500cc has a blue point. Logo marks of Jazz also same.

FRONT FENDER & CHASSIS
Fit is using for many purposes from a private car to a business car. Many types of people own it. So some owners might not good at driving. The most often accident is hitting on a front corner or rear. If the car was hit around its front fender, it might got any damages on its chassis also. It is better to check whether the car has repairing marks on fenders & bumpers before purchasing.

As I mentioned on the last EVERY NEWS about SUNNY, if its fender bolts have marks of using spanner, they have been repaired because of any damages before. If you find such marks, it's better to check its chassis carefully also.

ENGINE CONDITION
Unfortunately, there are people who replace engine oil only once every 2 years when their car got an automobile  inspection. This fact is famous in Japan. If a car have used deteriorated engine oil, its life may get shorter. In the worst case, its engine will seize up & break down completely.

If you can, you should ask the sales man to show you the engine maintenance record. It will be better to choose FIT which had been replaced engine oil every time it drive 5,000~8,000km or every 6 month.

If the car doesn't have the engine maintenance record, you should check its engine condition carefully. Not only if it works good now, also if its engine sound is not bigger than other vehicles, if its smoke is not clear color.

[EVERY NEWS 08]NISSAN SUNNY(Sedan)

Hi, there. It's snowing in Japan. I drive on icy road to our office everyday.

This week I researched one of NISSAN vehicle, SUNNY. Especially about SUNNY Sedan. Many customers who live in overseas value the durability of this vehicle highly because spare parts for NISSAN seems very rare.

NISSAN SUNNY(1966-2006)

Some users who want high power and swift-moving for their vehicles seems to be unsatisfied with its power even SUNNY has 1500cc engine. But many owners said SUNNY is very easy to drive. One of the reason is that the middle torque is strong. And its front view from driver's seat is very good because of its square body. If you like restful safety driving, SUNNY will be your good partner.

If you look for used SUNNY with good condition in Japan, try to ask your car dealer if they know the last owner of each vehicle. Because SUNNY was popular especially among senior drivers in Japan. So if it was owned as a private car, it might be taken good care.

AIR FLOW SENSOR
SUNNY is said very tough, but sometimes I have heard a trouble of its air flow sensor sometimes. The main symptoms are there.

1) Engine stop when driving especially with low speed, idling.
2) Acceleration is not smoothly
3) Idling is unstable

This trouble seems happen on SUNNY which mileage reached around 50,000~80,000km. It is better to check if the vehicle's idling and engine condition is no problem.

In passing, the air flow sensor of SUNNY is a part of throttle chamber assy. So it can't be replaced as this sensor only. In Japan, the brand new price of the throttle chamber assy is FOB 606~658$ at that time.

RADIATOR SUPPORT

This part is located in the front space of engine room. The vehicle got heavy damage on front before if a radiator support have any deformation, repairing mark, or it is clearly different color with other engine parts.






BOLTS OF FRONT FENDERS
You can see bolts of front fenders on right & left side of engine room when you open a bonnet. If these bolts don't have scratches of spanner, it may can say the vehicle never get heavy damage on the front until these bolts were repainted.

[EVERY NEWS07]HONDA ACCORD (Sedan)

Hi, Long time no see & Happy New Year for everyone. Japan got a terrible disaster last year. We thank you to give us a lot of kind messages. So we really hope anything will get better this year.

Today's topic is HONDA. These days I received many inquiries about HONDA vehicles. I'd like to pick up the one of long seller models of HONDA, ACCORD.

CD3~6 models(1993-1997) and CF3~5,CL1~3 models(1997-2002) were sold as ISUZU Aska also. As may be expected as HONDA Vehicle, one of Accord's sales points is Its strong engine. Its chassis are also highly rated among people who love motor sports. So ACCORD has many racing models.

DOOR LOCK
Sometimes I hear the trouble of door lock. Their main symptoms are here.

Door lock doesn't work though you used a master switch on driver's side and a remote control key.

And followings are causes what I have heard before.

1) Getting weaken of a motor in a door lock actuator.
A door lock actuator is located inside of door. I heard this trouble from some ACCORD users. They said actuator is simple part but brand new price is not cheap. The brand new price of door lock actuator was 105$(when I researched). It is better to check if their door locks work smoothly or not.

2) A trouble in a sensor of door lock
All doors have a sensor to check door open/close. If this sensor got any trouble, Lock signal can't be sent to a control unit correctly.

3) Wires between door lock sensor and a control unit
Same reason as a trouble of door lock sensor. If wires got trouble, lock signal can't be transmitted successfully.


CRUTCH MASTER CYLINDER
It seems to be a famous trouble among ACCORD Euro R owners that a noise causes once you use a crutch pedal. I couldn't find the specific reason once I did a research this time. Some people said that it was solved with replacing a crutch master cylinder, but another said that he replaced it every years. So I guess a crutch of some models of ACCORD might originally causes noise & vibration easily.

[EVERY NEWS 06] TOYOTA MARK 2

Good day, very cold these days in Japan. Winter will be coming soon. It's time to replace studless tires(Winter tires) for our vehicles.

Today's vehicle is TOYOTA's poplar sedan, Mark2. Mark2 has Straight-six engine, which are rare in present Japanese vehicles. This engine type is synonym for a high-class vehicle. You know TOYOTA Crown, NISSAN Cedric Gloria, Mitshubishi Debonair. The advantages of this engine are high power, silence, and toughness. But because of its disadvantages...like its size, cost,etc, the number of vehicles which has straight-six engine is getting smaller.

BADGE ENGINEERING

As you know the main mechanical of Mark2, Cresta, and Chaser are same till 1996 year model(X100,X110 model). So they can share some parts(Driving parts, suspension parts,etc). That means these parts are easier to get than other vehicles. After the minor change 1998/8, Genuine aluminium wheels was chose a common size with Cresta and Chaser's.

ENGINE IDLING TROUBLE

Engine troubles of Mark2 seems to be very rare, but the following trouble seems to cause on some old vehicles. 

1) It is hard to start engine during summer season.

2) Stop easily even it could start.

3) When the temperature is low, there's no problem.

Some owners said their engines can't idle regardless of temperature.

Then replacing igniters & a charcoal canister may help to solve this trouble. A igniter is a part to boost voltage to ignite spark plugs, etc. And a charcoal canister is a part which process vaporized gasoline in a tank. This part is one of a EGR system. If this part have any trouble, or is stuffed, strong gasoline smell will cause. Please check once you purchase it and own it.

[EVERY NEWS05] MAZDA MPV

Hi, it's very cold these days. Some people already started to look for studless winter tires. I think the market price of used studless tires will be getting higher soon.


I have written about TOYOTA, NISSAN, Mitsubishi poplar vehicles. Then today's topic is one of MAZDA's poplar family car, MPV. MPV is short for "Multi Purpose Vehicle". The one of original point is a movable left second line seat. MPV's second seats are for 2 passengers, and this left side seat can move horizontally. So you can use second seats as 1 bench seat and 2 separate seats. At August 2002 year's model change, a right second line seat also became to be able to move horizontally.

MAZDA MPV(1997~)

HAND-POWERED SLIDE DOORS
Once a rubber seal bet ween a slide door & B pillar deteriorated, the door become heavy to open. Please check slide doors' condition & try them when you look for a vehicle which have slide doors like MPV.

Before the first minor change in 2002, MPV's hand-powered slide doors didn't have a door-fixing system. So it was possible that a slide door close by itself because of its weight if you open the door on a slope. After the minor change, its design was reconsidered & a door-fixing system was loaded so that door was locked when it was full-opened, and it doesn't move unless you pull the door nob. If you have young kids, please pay attention whether the vehicle's slide doors have a door-fixing system.

ELECTRIC SLIDE DOORS
I have sometime heard a trouble of electric slide doors that the door don't close perfectly. These are some of main reasons of the trouble. It may be good to check the following parts once you look for good vehicle.

(1) Trouble of an auto closer
An auto closer is a motor that assist the door close pulling it. If this motor broke down, the door may stop OR slow down just before it close.

(2) Clogging in the clearance gap between a door & a body
If small stones or something are in the clearance gap between under a door & its body, MPV's safety system sense it & stop closing. Cleaning under a slide door (a place which slide door's wheel pass on) is necessary in this case.

(3) Rust on the body flame
Wheels of MPV's slide door move on its body flame(bottom of step) directly, so it doesn't have rail part for slide doors. If rain water have heaped in this flame part, it may goes rusty & be shaved by slide door wheels. Then the door became not to be able to close at correct position. To avoid this problem, please check whether rain water have collected on the place which slide door's wheel pass on, and whether a drain to discharge rain water haven't clogged.

ENGINE MOUNTS
Engine mounts are parts to fix an engine in vehicle's body. They soften vibration of an engine is conducted to chassis, etc. If engine mounts deteriorate, oil inside of them leak. Engine mounts are not so many in Used parts market because sometimes they are broken once engines are removed from vehicles and rubber parts are easy to deteriorate. Vehicles that has deteriorated engine mounts may cause noise before long. So please check their condition before purchasing.

This engine mount have caused oil leaking. You can see brown oil is oozing around the engine mount.

[EVERY NEWS04] NISSAN X-TRAIL

Long time no see. The fall is finally coming. Today I picked up one of the very famous SUV, Nissan X-Trail.

X-Trail was produced as a rival of TOYOTA RAV4 & HONDA CR-V. But X-Trail carried through to be an off-road vehicle even other SUV changed their concept to rich machines. After the first model change, X-Trail improved its driving performance and functionality keeping its concept, an off-road SUV. X-Trail has many equipment for out door activity, so very poplar among users who like camp, long driving, off-road driving, etc. From 2007 through 2009, X-Trail was the best seller SUV in Japan.

AIR CONDITIONER SYSTEM
I sometimes found records about air conditioner(A/C) trouble of X-Trail. Their main symptoms are these.

(1) Wind blow from A/C panel but not cool.
(2) Wind doesn't blow completely.

If relay of A/C compressor have broken, A/C can't send cool air like (1). This trouble have found from some X-trail. Please check the relay if you got trouble in A/C.
In case of (2), don't you hear an loud sound from under the assistant driver's seat? If so, it may trouble of a blower motor. It is electric motor which spin a fan of A/C. If it is broken, it can't send air.

In passing, when you turned on A/C with AUTO mode on a cold day, vehicles don't send air till its water temperature is getting increase. It is to avoid to cool a passenger room, not a breakdown.


BACK DOOR CONDITION & BODY FRAME
If a back door(tail gate) goes down by itself when you open it, its dumper rods may have worn away.

Or, if a back door doesn't close well, lock parts of a door may be deformed because of shock or something. Repairing lock parts only is not so difficult, but I want to ask you to check a distortion of its body frame once you realized such condition.

as you know the main reason of a distortion of frame is a car accident. So if its body frame has distortion, this vehicle may has damages on other important parts even visible body damages had fixed. So please open a back door, and check whether body frame has repair marks, whether it has a distortion between body  & all doors carefully.

FULL MODEL CHANGE ON AUG, 2007
After the model change on August 2007, X-trail added the electric control 4WD system. That is a driving assist system that control engine torque, speed at a downhill, break, etc for all load condition. Passenger room are waterproofing type to against dirty. Its luggage board in the luggage space is detachable so that you can wash it. Under the luggage board are trays to put your luggage away with great efficiency. These items are really useful if you work with this vehicle, when you go to out door activity.

[EVERY NEWS 03] TOYOTA VITZ

Hi there. Yen exchange is getting really heavy for us...Anyway this week I pick up one of the best seller vehicles of TOYOTA, Vitz.

Its design, high quality safe performance, and environmental performance charmed many people, and Vitz brought compact car boom among Japan with HONDA Fit, NISSAN March. Even now they are said "They changed the Japanese small vehicles".

ENGINE OIL
There are seemed many Vitz which had trouble on its engine because of neglect of engine oil replacement. It is possible to break its timing chain or belt if its engine oil haven't replaced at fixed intervals. Breaking timing chain cause serious damage on its engine, and it may costs a lot to repair.

Once you buy Vitz, please try to hear its engine sound carefully. If it has heavy clatter noise, it may one which are neglected engine oil replacement.

If it was heavy to compare engine sounds, please take its engine oil cap off & check backside of it. If it has heavy dirty, it may be possible that the vehicle has been neglected an engine oil replacement.

This 2 check points are not only for Vitz. They may be helpful for any vehicles.

Engine oil for Vitz are 5W-20, 5W-30,10W-30 of API SJ/ILSAC GF-2 or 10W-30 of API SH. Vitz like a low viscosity oil. So 5W series are ideal in Japan products.


AIR FLOW SENSOR (AIR FLOW METER)
Vitz 1999~2005 model (SCP1* or NCP1* ) are sometimes reported trouble of an air flow sensor(air flow meter). Its main symptoms are turning on an engine warning lump during driving, but it turn off once restart engine

This trouble may happen because lean signal is sent longer time than actual and the sensor figure that is warning. Surely in other cases any engine trouble has happened truly. So please check your vehicle carefully once you found that an engine warning lump was turned on.


An air flow meter for Vitz is non-analyzable type. It isn't designed to analyze to cleaning. So I recommend you to replace it once it has trouble though some people have continued to use it cleaning by themselves.

[EVERY NEWS 02] MITSUBISHI CHARIOT GRANDIS

Good evening, Autumn is finally coming!! Good by summer beach, Hello autumnal tints!! This week I'd like to pick up a really poplar wagon from Mitsubishi, Chariot Grandis.

Its first model is "Chariot" made in 1983. After 1993, the name was changed to "Chariot Grandis".

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN N84W & N94W
Some customer asked the difference of N84W & N94W.
N84W is 2WD, Front engine Front drive vehicle. Other hand N94W is Full-Time 4WD. Because of the difference of drive system, N84W is 1570kg but N94W is 1670kg(In case of glade EXCEED).

If you want high power vehicle, N94W is recommended. But on the fuel expenses side, N84W is better on normal road.

And fuel tunk size is also different. N84W can hold maximum 63L. N94W is 58L.


CARBON DIRT
Chariot Grandis has GDI engine, which is direct injection type. This engine is easier to get carbon dirty around injections then other engine type. This carbon dirt disturb the normal burning. Then it cause more carbon dirt.

This carbon dirt often is a cause of unstable idling, black smoke from an exhaust, engine stop, etc. Many Chariot Grandis owners have complained same accident. Almost of their mileage are over 60,000km. It is better to clean carbon dirt sometimes & pay attention its engine condition once you buy Chariot Grandis.


ENGINE OIL DECREASING & NOISE FROM RUSH ADJUSTERS
GDI engine is also said that it is easy to decrease its engine oil. If engine oil decrease in large quantities, oil may became to easy to include air.

The air come into hyperbaric chambers of rush adjusters, then rush adjusters shrink too much. And then they make clanging once valves closed.

4 rush adjusters are necessary for each cylinder. Replacing all rush adjusters costs very much. It is better to check the oil quantity often.

[EVERY NEWS 01] TOYOTA Townace/ Liteace NOAH

Rubber parts for against rains

Some early products of Townace NOAH & Liteace NOAH 1996/10~1998/01 model don't have rubber parts for against rains on their back doors. Raindrops come into their cargoes if they don't have this parts. The rubber parts are put on both side of back door, near back door dampers.
(Their shapes are depends on vehicle models)


Slide door
Old slide door cause strange noise or is heavy to open. One of reasons is wear of rollers of rear doors. Rollers has resinous wheels, but if they worn down, metal parts were rubbed with guide rails. It is better to check conditions of slide doors before you buy vehicles.

Electric slide door
Some NOAH have wire-type-electric slide doors. It is easy to install and is reasonable, but in case of Japan, once it was broken, you have to replace slide door assembly. Please use electric slide doors carefully.
